Next version of HDMI standard to be announced at CES 2025
Seven years have passed since the HDMI Organization released HDMI 2.1. Finally, technical progress has paved the way for the next generation of the most popular video transmission standard.
The Announcement
An official invitation sent to journalists indicates that the new HDMI 2.2 standard will be unveiled on January 6, 2025, just before the opening of Consumer Electronics Show 2025.
What to expect?
Details about the specifications of HDMI 2.2 are scarce, but it has been mentioned that the new standard will offer increased bandwidth. The current version of HDMI (2.1b) supports data transmission up to 48 Gbps, enabling 4K video resolution at 120 frames per second.
Why is it important for outdoor movie enthusiasts?
Even the current HDMI version offers ample bandwidth, enabling extremely high image quality with even the best outdoor movie projectors. However, given the rapid pace of technological advancement, it's easy to imagine that 8K consumer projectors will become commonplace within a few years.
